On tour in Quebec and Ontario in early October and in anticipation of the upcoming high season, Cuba’s Minister of Tourism Manuel Marrero Cruz met with several stakeholders from the Canadian tourism sector, including the Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and Francophonie, representatives of tour operators, travel agencies and airlines (Air Canada, Air Transat) and the Quebec Institute of Tourism and Hotels (ITHQ). This last meeting allowed to discuss the current and future collaboration project between ITHQ and Formatur, the school in charge of training hotel workers in Cuba.
This visit to Canada ended with an activity to which several partners from the Quebec tourism sector were invited. Thereafter, Minister Marrero reiterated the close ties between Cuba and Canada and referred to forecasts of the Cuban tourism sector in the presence of participants.
In addition, at the end of September, Gaviota Group was visiting Quebec for a promotional tour with travel agencies. On September 27, the ITHQ received the delegation of this company headed by its president, Mr. Carlos Miguel Latuff Carmenate. After a visit to the facilities and kitchen labs of the ITHQ, discussions continued and focused on the need of hotel workforce of this group, the largest hotel facilities manager in Cuba with more than 28,000 rooms, superior and 5 stars hotels and in charge of opening several new ones by 2020.
The delegation was also made up of the group’s corporate leader, Mr. Luis García Hernández, who participated in the collaboration project on training between ITHQ and Formatur in Montreal in 2017.
